Oh what a night!

Oh what a night!

The Emporium in Yeovil celebrated Veganuary in style, with a spectacular 5 course vegan tasting menu held in their cafe on the evening of Thursday 17th January.

Guests from across the region joined in this fabulous evening, enjoying the company of like-minded people as much as the amazing food prepared by the Head Chef at The Emporium, James Woodward.

‘When James first joined us back in November 2018, we were already serving a number of vegan options on our menu’ says Store Manager, Jess Baker.’ But with James’ skill and passion  for this type of cooking, he has taken the vegan and vegetarian options on our menu to a whole new level. And what better way to showcase this than with a 5 course tasting menu? We were overwhelmed with the repose and our 75 tickets soon sold out, so much so that we are now going to be running similar vegan supper evenings every two months.’

Guests were treated to an inspired menu of:

  • Living Soup - Spiced cauliflower, roasted garlic and coconut soup topped with sprouted ‘living’ seeds, served with Bakerman Dan’s artisan sourdough bread.

  • Chef’s Asian platter of mixed starters including hoisin sesame tofu, sushi, vegetable gyozas, Chinese pickles with wasabi and sesame dip.

  • Lemon and mint sorbet.

  • Mexican Medley including home fried nachos, three bean chili, Mexican mixed salad, guacamole, salsa and vegan sour cream.

  • Blueberry and almond crumble muffin with vegan vanilla ice cream.

A short talk was given during the meal by John Awen, from The Vegan Society which informed guests of the rapidly growing trend towards the Vegan movement and the global and health benefits of following such a diet.

The Emporium Cafe is often described as a ‘hidden gem’ being tucked away upstairs at The Emporium in Yeovil’s Princes Street. Although it serves a wide variety of meals, including some meat and fish dishes, there is always a really wide variety of vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options to choose from.

Future dates for vegan suppers at The Emporium are planned for 28th March, 27th June and 12th September. Bookings can be made in store at The Emporium, 39 Princes Street, Yeovil, by phone 01935 411378 or online at info@theemporiumyeovil.co.uk/cafe The cost of these  is £22.95 per head, with early bird tickets available for £19.95 if booked a month in advance.
